In transfer cases, the prosecution attempts to convince the juvenile court to transfer jurisdiction of a case to district, or "adult," court, whereas in direct-file cases, where a youth is charged as an adult from the beginning, the defense team works to persuade the district court to transfer jurisdiction back to the juvenile court.
